Who We Are

The story of Ebenezer Oromo Evangelical Church (EOEC) is a testimony of faith, perseverance, and God’s faithful provision. What began in 1987 as a small home-based fellowship among Oromo Christians in Minnesota grew steadily through prayer, unity, and devotion to God’s Word. As the fellowship expanded, God opened doors for shared worship spaces, formal incorporation, pastoral leadership, and partnerships with supporting churches, allowing the congregation to grow both spiritually and numerically.

From its early years, EOEC brought together believers from various evangelical Christian backgrounds, united by a shared faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the Bible. For this reason, EOEC is an interdenominational church.

An interdenominational church is a Christian church that welcomes believers from different Christian denominations and traditions. Rather than being governed by one specific denomination, it is grounded in the authority of Scripture, centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ, and focused on unity in essential biblical beliefs while allowing diversity in non-essential traditions.

Throughout its history, the church has remained firmly committed to the authority of Scripture. In the early 2000s, theological differences regarding biblical teachings led the congregation to make difficult but faithful decisions, including leaving long-standing partnerships and eventually separating from denominational structures that no longer aligned with its biblical convictions. Through prayer and trust in God’s guidance, the church was sustained, strengthened, and called to continue as an independent, interdenominational evangelical church.

In 2012, guided by unity and a shared vision, Ebenezer Oromo Evangelical Church was officially formed, marking a new beginning. With ordained leadership and a renewed mission, the church experienced spiritual revival, hosted international conferences, and expanded its ministry reach across the United States and beyond. In 2017, God answered years of prayer by providing a permanent church home in Minneapolis an important milestone celebrated with gratitude and praise.

Today, Ebenezer Oromo Evangelical Church stands as a vibrant interdenominational evangelical spiritual home for Oromo believers and families in the Twin Cities and around the world. Committed to proclaiming Christ, discipling the next generation, and advancing God’s mission globally, the church continues to declare with thanksgiving:
“Ebenezer—Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
(1 Samuel 7:12)
